DEREE COLLEGE ATHLETIC CLUB PITA CUTTING

January, 28 2023 (5:00pm – Deree Gym / A. Christopher court)

In September 2011, the Deree College Athletic Club began to operate the Deree Sports Academy, aiming to provide children with high-level sports training and to cultivating good characters, good students and good athletes!

There are six sports (swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball, soccer and track & field), with more of 1.300 children in the program.

You are cordially invited to the Deree Sports Academy pita cutting where our athletes who achieved major distinctions in 2021-22 will be honored.

Guest of honor will be Mr. Pyrros Dimas, multiple Olympic gold medalist, who will be also honored for his life commitment and contribution to sports.

Arrival time is 4:30-4:55pm and all our athletes should have their membership card with them to scan it at the entrance and participate in the prize draw.

Installation of a new energy efficiency and air cleaning system at the Pierce Gym!

It is with great pleasure, we inform you that within the framework of our commitment to conserving energy and protecting the environment, in July, we proceeded with the installation of special equipment at the Pierce Gym. On the one hand, it aims at ensuring a healthy environment for the athletes to train in, through the cleansing of the air from viruses, including SARS-CoV-2 and on the other hand, it aims at improving the performance of the air-conditioner, resulting in the thermal comfort of the athletes.

There are 12 machines combined, installed on the ceiling of the court following the operation hours of the air-conditioning of this space. At a very low operational and maintenance cost, we aspire to achieve:

  • the cleansing of the air from pathogenic pollutants by 99% as well as the reduction of odors, through special filters
  • the conservation of energy, up to 30%, for the air-conditioning of the area, through a mechanism of appropriate air circulation

The aforementioned very important upgrade is in the context of the continuous improvement of our athletic facilities, with the following major projects already completed:

  • At the Deree Gym, the insulation of the roof, the installation of a new air conditioning system and the change of lights to high energy efficient LEDs.
  • At the Fitness Center, the installation of a new floor.
  • At the Swimming Pool, the installation of new machines at the boiler room, the construction of new locker rooms at the entrance level and on the pool deck, and the change of the lights to high energy efficient LEDs.
  • At the Soccer Field, the replacement of the synthetic turf with a new environmentally friendly, and the change of the lights to high energy efficient LEDs.
  • At the Pierce Gym, the installation of a new floor at both courts, the construction of new locker rooms, and the change of the lights to high energy efficiency LEDs.
  • At all sports facilities, the installation of access card readers.
  • The installation of three “smart” coolers, to supply clean drinking water and avoid the use of plastic bottles.
  • Last, but not least, the implementation of an electronic registration, booking and payment program, saving thousands of pages of paper!

We are continuously making an effort to improve our facilities and carbon footprint!

Announcement concerning the operation of our athletic facilities (1/31/2022).

Following the recent severe weather conditions, the problems that emerged due to the heavy snowfall, and the gradually restoration of the damages, on Monday, January 31 the Deree Gym, the Pierce Gym and the Fitness Center will be available for use, and the Deree Basketball Academy and the Deree Volleyball Academy will operate with their usual schedule.

The swimming pool will remain closed today – since the water temperature at 09:30 a.m. was at 22.7 ˚C – aiming, by keeping the pool blankets on, to help the water reach a higher temperature in order to be able to open the facility tomorrow.

The ACG soccer and track complex is covered with snow and ice, and since the specifications of the artificial Eco-friendly turf do not allow its use in similar conditions, the facility will remain closed.

The Deree tennis courts are still covered in snow and ice, and will remain closed.

Following the aforementioned, the Deree Swim Academy, Deree Tennis Academy, Deree Soccer Academy, Deree Track & Field Academy will not operate today.

Damage repair works are underway to ensure that the athletic facilities will be delivered the soonest, safe to use.
